Obesity a key link to soaring health tab as costs double
Americans who are 30 or more pounds over a healthy weight cost the country an estimated $147 billion in weight-related medical bills in 2008, double the amount a decade ago, according to a study by government scientists and the non-profit research group RTI International.
Taxpayers picked up about half the $147 billion tab in 2008 through Medicare and Medicaid.

Obesity is the result of Big Sugar, Big Corn and Soy, and Big Wheat getting silly rich selling us their industrial poison package as being food... and we're buying it. This further sets us up for the next big modern day predator, Big Pharma and Big Medical, to take any money left and attempt to postpone our death... and a miserable one at that... All the while never addressing the cause. Instead, our government subsidies the food which is making us sick making sure it remains the cheapest.
