Carbohydrate Addiction
Reading through Fat Burner's Café website you have learned why factory created fats and oils, grains, starches, and sweets are not good for any part of your health. Actually, they rob you of health. But still you may be defending a few items... 'don't mess with my morning English muffins, doughnuts, bagels, whole-grain toast, cereal, cookies, pizza, etc'. No one has ever been caught hiding in the closet with a nice bowl of steamed broccoli. So lets take a look at the carbohydrates (sugar) addiction. You probably believe you crave grains and starchy foods because you like them. The reality is that, if you are like most people, you crave grains and sugar "comfort" food because you are addicted to them. This reality sparks your need, first, to recognize the addiction.
Despite all the advertising and the wide availability of grain products and sugars today, our bodies were not designed the eat these foods (should we say 'non-foods') in the quantities that we now do. Grains are cheap to use by mega-food-giants to create attractive food-like-substances for human consumption which is also fed to our cattle. Grains and starches are cheap because you, me, and other taxpayers subsidize these crops at the tune of millions of dollars each year. Due to the powerful Grain Belt lobbyists in Washington, we don't really have a free market. We are therefor bombarded with this cheap low-nutrient food... Why does a bottle of water cost more than a McHamburger?
All the while, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Pyramid encourages people to consume six to eleven servings of grains and starches per day. Yet our cattle is given grains and starches (and stale gummy bears, old bakery goods, chicken poop, etc) to 'fatten' them up for the market. Why are we not seeing this contradiction? Like the movie... maybe we are living in "The Age of Stupid".
It's hard to admit that something you regularly consume is harmful, or that you can't control your consumption. It's hard to believe that grains are detrimental when everyone around you indulges in them beginning with the worst meal to start eating carbohydrates... your morning breakfast. This is guaranteed to set you up for a day of snacking, crashing, binging, sugar/insulin roller coastering day. This, shall I say, is not in your best interest!
Ask yourself...
- Do I eat grains, grain products, starches and sweets at ever meal?
- Does a meal feel incomplete without bread or a dessert?
- Do I feel hungry within two hours after meals with grains, starches, and sweets?
- Am I protecting my 'right' to certain grain and sugary food and/or drinks?
- Do I have high blood pressure?
- Do I have high cholesterol?
- Do I have diabetes or is it in my family?
- Am I fifteen pounds overweight?
- Do I keep eating after I am already full?
- Do I suffer from energy crashes after meals?
- Do I use food as a reward?
- Do I use food to change my mood?
These questions suck... but they have to be answered by you. Admitting an addiction is the first step in moving away from its control. And I believe this is what you want because you have read to this point and continue to. This is huge on your part!!! Don't underestimate this.
Kicking the grain and sugar habit!
Use whatever you need to use to reverse this addition. Get pissed at the corporate manipulation and/or government subsidies which keep this food the cheapest. Or the fact that we taxpayers are funding this cheap food AND we are funding the detrimental effects with more of our money going toward health care (should we say; disease care?). Get pissed indeed!!! and OPT OUT!
A wonderful book to help you through this process is Dr. Joseph Mercola's No-Grain Diet.
